Previously called Climate Emergency Community Action project – CECAP – this 5 year National Lottery funded programme is developing a range of major initiatives to meet its’ ambitious target of making Leeds zero carbon, nature friendly and socially just by 2030.
6 new ‘Transition Partners’ have been appointed to build a network and plans in thematic areas of Housing (People Powered Homes), Energy (Platform), Nature (Hyde Park Source), Economy/Work (Emilie Tricarico), Food (Foodwise Leeds), Education/Youth (Leeds Development Education Centre/ Angel House). A seventh area, Transport, is out for tender at present.
Three exciting new climate action groups in Beeston, Garforth plus the existing Otley 2030 organisation have been developed as part of the programme and four further areas will start development work in the Autumn. When fully operational these community climate action hubs will be supported by funding within the programme including a part-time Hub worker for 3 years to produce a local climate action plan, a programme of activities and actions coordinated through a local climate action Hub.
There will also be many other elements to the programme including a City Centre Hub, Climate Assemblies and a project to develop a leeds Doughnut’ base on Doughnut economics theories developed by Kate Raworth. See Video
